Community Impact has primary focus areas of: Education, Income/Financial Success, and Volunteerism. Consistent with the Community Impact approach, UWPV funds programs that effectively identify community need and are designed to achieve measurable impact.

Education – Children & Youth: We are committed to creating and sustaining opportunities that allow children to enter school ready to learn and ensure a successful transition through elementary, middle, and high school leading to graduation.

  • Representative Programs:
    • Stay in School Initiative Goal: Higher graduation rates = better academic, economic and life outcomes.
    • Youth Generate:  Student-led volunteer initiative targeting youth grades 4-12 throughout Hampden County, South Hadley, and Granby with a goal to increase transitional and transferable skill attainment for youth.

Financial Stability: We are committed to empowering those living with economic instability by securing opportunities to achieve financial independence, career success, and permanent affordable housing.

  • Representative Program:
    • Valley Opportunity Council – English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and General Equivalency Degree (GED)
    • Goal: To assist participants in learning the language and basic skills they need to achieve economic success.

Basic Needs – Emergency Assistance: We are committed to assisting people in meeting emergency and basic needs.

  • Representative Program:
    • Friends of the Homeless, Inc. Provides individuals with emergency shelter and services aimed at ending homelessness.
    • Goal: Provide temporary, emergency shelter and resources for individuals to help them on the road to self-sufficiency.
