Chicopee, MA (8/16/2022)— The United Way of Pioneer Valley has expanded their footprint into downtown Chicopee with the Chicopee Cupboard that will help feed local families.
The new United Way Cupboard on 226 Exchange Street is just a short distance from where the old Cupboard was located on Center Street but the larger area provides a world of difference for the many families in the Pioneer Valley who desperately need this help.
“The community came together to find this space, and we’re just very happy to have so many community leaders here to help us out with the grand opening,” said Paul Mina, Executive Director of the United Way of Pioneer Valley.
Although the United Way’s boundaries include Springfield, Holyoke, Chicopee, Granby and South Hadley any family lacking nourishment can get help from the food Cupboard in downtown Chicopee. The pandemic coupled with the agonizing rise in food prices created a dilemma for folks who had never before needed assistance.
“It’s an initiative tackling homelessness and hunger. We can agree this should not be an issue in this country but its this facility that makes that population have more help,” said Armando Olivares, District Aide to State Senator Adam Gomez.
The cupboard is open for food pickup on Tuesdays 9am-12pm, Wednesdays 3:30pm-5:30pm, and Thursdays from 11am-1pm.
