Springfield, MA (10/1/2024) — United Way of Pioneer Valley, Dora D. Robinson Women’s Leadership Council, is excited to launch Power of the Purse 2024, slated for November 2024. This initiative aims to provide essential toiletries, comfort items, and uplifting gifts to women in need, packed into new or gently used purses.
As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we are inviting the community to donate items to support women served by the YWCA and Alianza Domestic Violence Shelter. Your contributions will provide much-needed hope and comfort to these women during difficult times.
Requested Items:
- Gently used or new purses
- Toiletries: deodorant, bars of soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, feminine hygiene products, lip balm, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and combs
- Comfort and practical items: wrapped candy, gum, umbrellas, notebooks, journals, flashlights, key rings, and first aid kits
- Inspirational items: self-help books, laminated quotes, and small journals
- PPE: masks and hand sanitizer
Giselle Gaines, Co-Chair of the Dora D. Robinson Women’s Leadership Council, shared, “The Power of the Purse embodies Dora D. Robinson’s unwavering commitment to uplifting women in our community. Through each purse we fill, we’re sending a message of strength, resilience, and hope. It’s a simple act that shows these women they are seen, valued, and never alone. Together, we continue her legacy of compassion and empowerment.”
Dr. Latoya Bosworth, Co-Chair of the Dora D. Robinson Women’s Leadership Council, also added, “The power of the purse aligns with the council's values of compassion, community and gratitude; values we hope extend to the greater Pioneer Valley through donations and support.”
