Springfield, MA – United Way of Pioneer Valley hosted the Grand Opening of their new Springfield Community Service Center during a state-wide video conference celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, February 11th. Lt. Governor Karyn Polito, Senate President Karen Spilka, EOHHS Secretary Mary Lou Sudders, and Mayor Domenic Sarno of Springfield joined United Way and Mass211 at the event to declare February 11th as “211 Day” in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
February 11th was recognized as “211 Day” with celebrations in both Framingham and Springfield, MA. This event recognizes the importance of this free state-wide telephone hotline that helps callers 24/7 and answers calls in over 145 languages.
Lt. Governor Polito, Senate President Spilka, and Secretary Sudders paid a visit to the Framingham Mass211 Headquarters, linked via video conferencing with their satellite call center in Springfield. Mayor Domenic Sarno led the 211 recognition in addition to cutting the ribbon in Springfield, signifying the grand opening of the UWPV Springfield Community Service Center. The service center houses the satellite Mass211/Call2talk call center, community food pantry, Thrive Financial Literacy Center, and fulfills a variety of other needs.
