United Way of Pioneer Valley (UWPV) is poised to launch Power of the Purse for 2023, a program that fills purses with critical toiletries and upbeat items for women in social service programs in our region.
In partnership with the Dora D. Robinson Women’s Leadership Council, UWPV is collecting new and gently used purses as well as toiletries such as soap, deodorant, lotion, hair products, feminine hygiene products, lip balm, and toothbrushes and toothpaste. UWPV also seeks items such as flashlights, small journals, inspirational items, and first aid kits.
Volunteers are encouraged to sign up to help staff pack the purses and assist with the distribution to social service programs.
Notes Jason Newmark, chair of the UWPV board, “Power of the Purse is an opportunity for UWPV to support the provision of vital supplies into the hands of our neighbors who cannot simply run out to the store and purchase a bar of soap and a bottle of shampoo. And - it is a fantastic and easy way for donors to drop off a few items and support this initiative.”
Donations of purses and toiletries may be made at United Way of Pioneer Valley, 1441 Main Street, Suite 147, Springfield, through Thursday, February 16th. Volunteers can sign up at www.uwpv.org/volunteer. Contact Jennifer Kinsman at jkinsman@uwpv.org or 413-693-0212 with any questions.
