SPRINGFIELD (MA) — Employees at Springfield-based Smith & Wesson collected gently used coats during a recent onsite coat drive. United Way of Pioneer Valley will help warm the community by distributing these coats in Western Mass. “Our employees are continually looking for ways to give back to our community. Knowing these new and gently used coats will be distributed locally makes this event even more special,” said Lane Tobiassen, President of Firearms at Smith & Wesson. “With the help of the United Way of Pioneer Valley these much-needed coats will make it to those who need them most.”
Smith & Wesson has been part of the Springfield community since 1852 and remains one of the area’s leading manufacturers, employing over 1600 and supporting multiple philanthropic causes and educational development. The coats will be distributed at several sites that have notified United Way that they have great need for both children and adults. “We always strive to match needs to resources in our service area. These workplace campaigns are essential to our work,” said Jennifer Kinsman, Director of Community Impact. UWPV’s service area includes all of Hampden County, South Hadley and Granby for a total of 25 cities and towns.
